Many people speak about Brahmacharya/Celibacy, but serious men are rare. A life in celibacy is hard. But the road is smooth for a man with firm determination, patience, and perseverance. We want true, serious men in the world, men who are practical Brahmacharis, men who can impress people with their powerful physicality, ideal existence, noble character, and spiritual energy. Pure idle talk is of no use at all.
Mankind’s total life has shrunk to forty years, relative to a hundred years of normal life. Any well-wisher of the world must think very carefully regarding this most shameful and devastating state of affairs and implement the right remedy in time. The future well-being of the world depends solely on the youth. It is the responsibility of the Sannyasins, saints, students, scholars, and parents to reintroduce the life of celibacy in youngsters.
It’ll make your body healthy, strong, good-looking, and you’ll live longer. But that’s not the ultimate destination. ‘Self Realization’ signifies the start of this consciousness and is thus a prerequisite for establishing yourself in brahmacharya. True information is the one that causes the result.
Human life is extremely rare and special. One should not waste it on leisure, entertainment, but inquire about the true meaning of life (Self-Realization). Brahmacharya is also interpreted into English as “chastity,” a term that has people believing they have to submit to celibacy in order to carry out the Yamas. And historically, at least in some lineages, brahmacharya was meant as a way of saving sexual energy. If yogis did not waste their energies on sexual activity, they would have more energy to commit themselves to the higher paths.
Through brahmacharya, every siddhi can be attained and even the impossible and imaginable goal for the good of the whole universe can be accomplished. Without brahmacharya, one can achieve nothing big.
It’s like you’re traveling without a target where you’ll end up nowhere. But if you walk with a goal in mind, you’re guaranteed to get there. In the same manner, the practice of celibacy or brahmacharya should be with a correct interpretation and a purpose in mind. If the aim of pursuing brahmacharya is not strong, your vow will be broken.
In most situations, awareness and moderation are essential to the “right use of energy.” Brahmacharya is about paying attention to how you use the energy in daily life. It’s about offering the mind and body everything it needs—and enjoys—without rushing to a point of excess.
What I’ve found is that one should never aim for brahmacharya, but aim for God-realization or how to achieve your goal. Brahmacharya would be a side result of your enthusiasm for the realisation and god. No great sage ever attempted to obey the brahmachary, they only loved God madly, and the brahmacharya fell in their lives naturally. Many scientists became brahamcharis, not because they chose to become brahamcharis, but merely because they considered their studies more important than the tiny needs of the body. They do not deny nature or body, however, they touch another level to their intelligence and interest.
Try to be celibate for some time. Your face is going to witness a glow, and even without doing something, there will be satisfaction from inside.
If one continues brahmacharya for a year, they will be in their own divine paradise and will not gaze lustfully at the opposite sex because they have a good association. But if they have a bad association, even after 20 years of brahmacharya practice, they might fall down!
It could be challenging in the early days owing to the poor habit of the past. Whether it occurs naturally like wet dreams, you don’t have to think about it and just ignore it. Don’t take a peek at it. But while you are awake, do not do this by your own will.
Last but not least, best of luck with this beautiful journey. May you love it and become a giver of bliss.
Some Useful Tips about How to Practice Brahmachary/Celibacy:
- Refrain from viewing clips, reading books, or gazing at pictures that trigger sexual fantasies or urges within you.
- Whoever wishes to pursue celibacy/brahmacharya must not look at someone with sexual intent.
- You have to do pratikraman for all the errors in non-celibacy that have happened in your mind, speech, or body to date, and make a clear decision not to replicate such mistakes in the future.
- Understand that the person you’re drawn to isn’t pushing and attracting you. It’s the account of your past life that pulls and inspires you. Therefore, get rid of and cast away sexual desires and clean up the mind by calling for forgiveness and asking for the courage to practice celibacy.
- Do not engage in sexual fantasies about anyone; if they happen, you must immediately erase them with Pratikraman.
- Eradicate sexual impulses right away. Do Pratikraman for any sexual desire.
- If you are drawn to or sexually tempted by a certain person, you must ask for the courage to follow celibacy (brahmacharya) from that person’s soul by saying, ‘O pure soul! Offer me the power to uphold my celibacy (brahmacharya) with the whole universe.
- Get in contact with the living Gnani, remain linked, and get continuous advice from Him to achieve your aim of celibacy.
- To reinforce your commitment to follow brahmacharya, keep saying this, “O Dada Bhagwan (God inside you), I am finding my determination stronger and stronger. Please give me the energy to reinforce my resolve to brahmacharya. Such words are going to raise the energy.
- Look at the Pure Soul of the person you’re drawn to. When you see their Soul, you will not have sexual feelings about them.
- Pratikraman and the solid resolution (Nischaya) are the forces that must be sustained.
- Avoid the company of all who may not motivate you to fulfill your aim of celibacy.
- Hang among others who have the same purpose of maintaining celibacy as you do. This encouragement, on its own, will help you hold to your target and reduce your risk of falling into non-celibacy.
Daily Prayer:
“Dear God! Give me infinite inner strength not to have, cause someone to have, nor encourage anyone to have any sexual desires, feelings, or gestures towards any living being, be it male, female, or of neutral gender. Give me the supreme strength to be free from all sexual desires, forever.”
